   If  a = -3  when  b = 8, find a when b = 6.     

   Express your answer as a fraction.     

 

   When b = 8 and a = –3 then ab = –24     

 

   When the values of a and b change inversely, the product will remain –24.     

   In other words, when b becomes 6, the product of a and b still equals –24.     

 

   a • b  =  –24       

   a • 6  =  –24     

        a  =  –24 / 6     

        a  =  – 4 / 1
