help ~ area of a trapezoid

Draw a perendicular to the base from the top right vertex......this will form a right triangle with sides  1  - √3   -  2

And the  height = √3

And the distance from the bottom right vertex to the intersection of the perpendicular and the base  = 1

So....by symmetery.....the base length  =  1  +  2    +  1   =    4

So.....the area  = (1.2) height * ( sum of base lengths)   =

(1/2) * √3  * ( 4 + 2)  =

(1/2) (6) (√3) =

3√3  units^2
