\(3+10x=-17\)

Subtract 3 from both sides.

\(10x=-20\)

Divide both sides by 10.

\(x=-2\)

To prove it, plug back in.

\(3+10(-2)=-17\)

Multiply before you add.

\(3-20=-17\)

Simplify.

\(-17=-17\)

This is true, so x=-2.
