The number of cubes =  Volume of box / Volume of cubes

Volume of box  =  (9/2) (2) (3/2)  =  54/4 in^3  = 27/2  in ^3

Volume of cube = (side)^3 =  (1/2)^3  =  1/8 in^3

So

(27/2) / (1/8)  =

(27/2) * (8/1)  =

(27) (8/2)  =

27 * 4  =

108 cubes
