A seventh–grade student wants to read at least 300 pages of a novel this week. He has already read 55 pages. An inequality that represents this situation is 7x + 55 ≥ 300.

Solve this inequality for x.

Using this solution, identify a number of pages that the student could read per day in order to have at least 300 pages of the novel read in a week. Explain how you know that your answer is appropriate.

Also can you explain this question to me because I do not understand it.

x will be the pages he needs to read in each of 7 days to complete the book..... he has read 55 pages of the book already....so he has 300- 55= 245 pages left to read in 7 days       245/7 = 35 pages a day to complete the book in 7 days:

7x+55 >=300      subtract the 55 pages he has read from both sides

7x>=245               now divide by 7 days

x >= 35         he has to read at least 35 pages each day to finish in seven days
