a) If √7.536 = 2.754, √75.36 = 8.681, How much is √75360 - √0.7536 show work please

b) A maths competition consists of 50 question. You get one correct 5 points, one wrong -2, leave blank get 0 points but not negative. A guy finish 90% of the questions, he got 176 points, how many did he get correct, how many did he get wrong?

:)

I know how to do :):) I am very awesome:):)

1)

 \(\sqrt{75360} - \sqrt{0.7536}\\ =\sqrt{7.536 \times 100^2} - \sqrt{75.36\times \left(\dfrac{1}{10}\right)^2}\\ =100\sqrt{7.536} - \dfrac{1}{10}\sqrt{75.36}\\ = 100 \times 2.754 - \dfrac{1}{10}\times 8.681\\ = 275.4 - 0.8681\\ =274.5319\)

2)

90% of the questions = 45 questions.

Let x be the number of questions he got correct.

(45-x) be the number of questions he got wrong.

\(5x + (-2)(45-x) + 0(50 - 45) = 176\\ 5x - 90 + 2x = 176\\ 7x = 266\\ \color{red}\boxed{\color{black}{x=38\\ 45-x = 7}}\)

He got 38 questions correct, and 7 questions wrong.

Calebmok: Be careful, your answer, or Max's answer of 274.5319 is WRONG!!. Why? Because you made a small mistake in writing the sqrt(7.536) =2.745. You wrote it as: 2.754.

Hi Calebmok

We present our mathematical answers in LaTex.

The LaTex tab is in the ribbon.

You do not need to know muxh to start using it and then you can just keep adding to your knowledge a little at a time.

Ty this

I want to write squareroot of (3x+24)

squareroot is sqrt but since you want to interpret this as a symbol you must put a \ backslash in front of it.

So it is              \sqrt{3x+24}

\sqrt is called a function - that is programing speak don't confuse the term with a maths function.

3x+24  is the argument.   It must go in parenthesis {curly brackets}

You do not need to know the fancy words to use Latex though :)

so like I already said it is        \sqrt{3x+24}

NOW  click on the LaTex button to open it and the write or copy that into it and hit ok. (you need to delete the stuff that is already there)   Here is the result.

\(\sqrt{3x+24}\)
