There is no reason to think that this is intended as a diophantine equation, nothing about integer nly solutions is mentioned. :)

Hayley, you have rearranged the equation correctly which is really good but wouldn't it be mor normal to change it to y=.....   ?

What's 6x+3y=-12

This is the equation of a line.

Simplifying

6x + 3y = -12

Solving

6x + 3y = -12

Solving for variable 'x'

. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-3y' to each side of the equation.

6x + 3y + -3y = -12 + -3y

Combine like terms: 3y + -3y = 0

6x + 0 = -12 + -3y

6x = -12 + -3y

Divide each side by '6'

. x = -2 + -0.5y

Simplifying

x = -2 + -0.5y

This is called a linear Diophantine Equation. It has infintely many solutions in whole integers.

Such as: x=1, y=-6, x=2, y=-8, x=-4, y=4..........and so on.
