A card is chosen at random from a standard deck of 52 cards. What is the probability that the card is a Queen or a \(\diamondsuit\) (or both)?
We can simply add the probabilities.
There are 4 queens, 3 of which are none- spade.
Thus, 3/52 chance of non-spade queen.
13 spades, 12 non-queen. 12/52
1 spade-queen, 1/52
Or you could add them all and subtract 1/52, since you'd be adding 2 copies of the spade-queen(1 with spades, other with queen)
Thus (3+12+1)/52 = 16/52
You can simplify that.
