Rationalize the denominator of 5/2 - square root 3, and write your answer in the form A + Bsqaure root 3/C where the fraction is in lowest terms. What is A+B+C?
I would multiply both the numerator and the denominator by [2 + sqrt(3)]. That would make the denominator 1 and then you just work on the numerator.
I assume this is :
5
__________ multiply top / bottom by the conjugate 2 + √3
2 - √3
5 [ 2 + √3 ] 5 [ 2 + √3] 10 + 5√3
__________________ = ____________ = _________
[ 2 - √3] [ 2 + √3 ] 4 - 3 1
A = 10 B = 5 C = 1
A + B + C = 16
