One month Kevin rented 6 movies and 2 video games for a total of $30. The next month he rented 3 movies and 5 video games for a total of $36. Find the rental cost for each movie and each video game.
Let M be the cost of 1 movie and V the cost of 1 video game....we have this system
6M + 2V = 30
3M + 5V = 36
Divide the first equation through by 2 and we get that 3M + V = 15
So
V = 15 - 3M
Sub this into the second equation
3M + 5( 15 -3M) = 36 simplify
3M + 75 - 15M = 36
-12M + 75 = 36 subtract75 from both sides
-12M = -39 divide both sides by -12
M = 39/12 = 13/4 = 3 + 1/4 = 3.25 = cost of a movie
And
V = 15 - 3 (3.25) = 15 - 9.75 = 5.25 = cost of a video game
