Sean has 12 cylindrical containers filled with sand, each of which has a radius of 4 centimeters. He wants to transfer his sand into some new cylindrical containers, which are the same height but have a radius of 8 centimeters. How many new containers will Sean need?

Volume   of   the  12 cylinders =    12  *  pi  *  4^2  * h  =    192 pi * h

So

192  pi  * h    =    N  *   pi  *  ( 8^2)  *  h           divide out  h  and pi   and simplify

192  =     N *  64

192 /  64   =  N

3  =  N   =  the  number  of new  containers   needed
