In a store window, there was a box of berries having a total weight of 200 kg. The berries were 99% water, by weight. After two days in the sun, the water content of the berries was only 95%, by weight. What was the total weight of the berries after two days, in kg?
The answer is not 100, 198.2 or 192
Thanks for your help
Originally, the berries weighed 200 kg and were 99% water, which means 198 kg of the berries was water and the remaining 2 kg was non-water content, which does not evaporate. Two days later, the berries still have 2 kg of non-water content, which now represents 5% of the weight as 95% is now water. To get the total weight of the berries (which is 100%), we multiply this by 5% by 20, which gives us 20*2kg=40 kg.
