Cutting equilateral triangle  out of square  and translating it to the left of the square creates the shaded figure . The perimeter of square  was 48 inches. What is the perimeter, in inches, of ?

The side of the square  = the side of the equilateral triangle  = 48/4  = 12 in

 

And I assume you want to know the perimeter of the shaded figure  ???

 

There are 6 sides to the shaded figure   each  =  12 in

 

So...the perimeter  =  6 * 12  =  72 in
