\(x=|x| \Rightarrow x \in [0, \infty)\)

\(\text{Janet's rate is $\dfrac{1}{3}~ job/hr$}\\ \text{Garry's is $\dfrac{1}{2}~job/hr$}\\ \text{Janet works an hour and gets $\dfrac 1 3$ of the job done}\\ \text{Garry joins her and they work at the rate of $\dfrac 1 3 + \dfrac 1 2 = \dfrac 5 6~job/hr$ on the remaining $\dfrac 2 3$ of the job}\\ \text{It takes them $\dfrac{\frac 2 3}{\frac 5 6} = \dfrac 4 5~hr$ to complete the job}\)

CPhil included the 1 hr Janet spent working alone.  I did not.

The question asks how long it would take "them" to do the job.

If you're going to be so critical perhaps investigate a bit further in the future.
