In rectangle WXYZ, A is on side WX such that AX = 4, B is on side YZ such that BY = 18, and C is on side XY such that ACB= 90 degrees and CY = 2CX. Find AB.

By the Pythagorean Theorem, AB = 4*sqrt(11).

AB cannot be shorter than BY!!!

 ΔBCY and  ΔACX  are similar.             Let CX be an N  (CY = 2N)

N / 4 = 18 / 2N

N * 2N = 18 * 4

2N2 = 72

N = 6

XY = 3 * N = 18

AB = sqrt [ (XY)2 + (BY - AX)2 ]  indecision
