What is the x-coordinate of the point on the x-axis that is equidistant from points A( -2, 0) B(0,4) and ?
If the point is on the x axis, let it be (m, 0)
So ....using the distance formula (squared) we have that
(m - 0)^2 + (0 - 4)^2 = ( m + 2)^2 + ( 0 - 0)^2 simplify
m^2 + 16 = m^2 + 4m + 4
16 = 4m + 4
4m = 12
m = 3
So...the point is (3, 0)
