By "y is a solution to 2y^2+11y+50",  do you mean 2y^2+11y+50=0 ?

If so,

Expand (y+3)(2y+5)

2y^2 + 11y + 15

Since 2y^2+11y+50=0, we subtract 35 from both sides.

We get 2y^2 + 11y + 15 = -35

So the answer is -35?
