A fish tank is to be filled with water. Originally, the ratio of water to empty space in the fish tank is 1:5. After 130 gallons of water are added, the ratio is 3:2. How many gallons does the tank contain when completely full?
originally water to empty = w:e = 1/5 water is 1/(1+5) = 1/6
ADD 130 and water is 3/5
3/5 x -1/6 x = 130 x is the amount of water when full
18 /30 x - 5 /30 x = 130
13/30 x = 130
x = 300 gallons check: 50 : 250 = 1:5 180 : 120 = 3:2
Thank you, Electric Pavlov, this problem seemed easy to me at first, but I'm not very good at "Counting and Probability". Thank you :D
