4x-5=1/2x-5

4x-5-1/2x+5=0

4x-1/2x=0

4x=1/2x

x is zero

Going from here, Midway....

 

4x=1/2x    multiply both sides by 2

 

8x  = 1x     subtract 1x from both sides

 

8x - 1x  = 0       factor

 

x ( 8 - 1)  = 0

 

7x  = 0     divide both sides by 7

 

x  = 0 / 7   = 0

Wouldnt you stop at 

 

8x=1x

 

8x-1x=7x

 

7x=0 OH I GET IT cause you HAVE to have the x By its self!

Note, Midway

 

8x  = 1x     subtract 1x from both sides

 

8x - 1x  = 1x - 1x

 

8x - 1x   = 0

 

And go from here.....
