help with algebra

sqrt (x+1) = x-5      square both sides

x+1 = x^2 -10x + 25

x^2 -11x +24 = 0    

(x-3)(x-8) = 0                   x = 3 (throw out)      and 8      (*** edited ***   for positive roots only)
