at the snack shack, students attending the football game can buy sodas for 1 dollar and slices of pizza for 3 dollars. At fridays game, the snack shack made 250 dollars by selling a total of 180 items. How many sodas were sold? How many pizzas were sold?

We needt to  solve  this

 

cost of one soda * number sold + cost of one pizza * number sold  =   $250

 

1x  + 3 (180 - x)   =   250

 

1x  + 540  - 3x  =  250

 

-2x  = 250  - 540

 

-2x   =  -290

 

x  = -290 /  -2  =   145  = sodas sold

 

180  = x =  180   - 145 =    35  pizzas sold
