Remember, dividing by a fraction is equivalent to multiplying by its reciprocal.

1/(1/3) = 1* (3/1) = 3. The answer is then 3, not 1/3.

You can think of it as dividing a stick of length one into lengths of 1/3 ; there are 3 of these smaller segments, not 1/3 of these smaller segments(that wouldn't make sense)

You can also get your answer by multiplying 1/3 with the possible answers, 3 and 1/3 to see if the product will be equal to 1.

I remember learning this in elementry school! To do this you can first right it out: 1/(1/3). Then the way we learend it was to keep the first number change the symbol and flip the last number. So 1/(1/3) would become: 1*3. So your first answer was correct!
