If I have a triangle that has an area of 196 and the base of the triangle is one half of its height. How would I find its base and height?
Area of a triangle = base * height/2 = b* h/2
In this case, b = 1/2 h or, put another way........2b = h
So .....substituting this into the area "formula".....we have.....
196 = b*h /2 = b[2b]/ 2 = [2b*b]/2 = b^2
196 = b^2 take the square root of both sides
14 = base and the height is twice this = 28
