4x - y = 3

2x + 3y = 19

Will I get the same answer no matter if I solve for x or y on any problem?

You will get the same answer

4x - y = 3    ⇒  y = 4x - 3   (1)

2x + 3y = 19    (2)

Put  (1) into (2)  for y  and we have

2x + 3(4x - 3)  = 19       simplify

2x + 12x - 9  = 19

14x - 9  =  19       add 9 to both sides

14x  = 28     divide both sides by 14

x  = 2

And using (1)  y  =  4(2) - 3  =  5
