if the sum of 3 consecutive odd numbers is 117. what is the smallest of the three numbers?
Let the FIRST number be (2x + 1) I put it in this form to be sure the answer is an ODD number
The SECOND number woud then be (2x + 3)
The THIRD number would be (2x + 5)
Add these three terms together to get 117
(2x+1) + (2x+3) + (2x+5) = 117 then solve for 'x'
6x + 9 = 117
6x=108
x=18 BUT remeber the FIRST number is (2x+1) so the first number would be 37 then 39 then 41
