\(\begin{align} x+x+y&=14\\ L+L+z&=20\\ x+y+z&=12\\ x+z+L&=18 \end{align}\)

 

If numbers x,y,z,L satisfy the equations above, find the value of x+z

From the first equation     2x+ y = 14        y = 14-2x

From the second equation  L = 10- 1/2 z

 

Add 3rd and 4th    2x + 2z + y + L = 30      sub in the above 2 equations

                              2x + 2z + 14-2x + 10 - 1/2z = 30    simplify

                            1 1/2 z + 24 = 30

                                 z = 4

 

From third equtiion     x + 14-2x + 4 = 12

                                    -x = -6          x = 6                         x + z = 10
