DH  = HF   and  GH = HE  ....so.....

x + 1  = 3y   →    x  = 3y - 1       (1)

3x - 4 = 5y + 1          (2)

Sub  (1)  into  (2)

3[ 3y - 1 ] - 4  = 5y + 1

9y - 3 - 4  = 5y + 1    

9y - 7  = 5y + 1     rearrange

9y - 5y  =  1 + 7

4y = 8     →  y = 2

And

x  = 3y - 1  →  3(2) - 1  =  6 - 1  =  5
