so you want to isolate "x" to one side of the equation

Start by adding "x" to both sides. So you get

(x)+2x+4=-x(+x)-2

combine like terms and you get

3x+4=-2

then subtract 4 from both sides to get

3x(-4)+4=-2(-4)

combine likes to get

3x=-6

finally, divide both sides to get

(3x)/3=-6/3

simplify to get

x=-2

Hope this helps!
