A banana and an apple balance a mango. A banana balances an apple and a nectarine. Two mangoes balance with three nectarines how many apples will balance with a banana
This is just a few clever algebraic manipulations...
Let's say b = banana, a = apple, m = mango, n = nectarine
b + a = m
b = a + n
2m = 3n
Since b = a + n,
b + a = m ---> a + n + a = m
2a + n = m
Since 2m = 3n, n = 2m/3
2a + 2m/3 = m
2a + 2m/3 = 3m/3
2a = m/3
a = m/6
1/6 of a mango balances an apple.
