If this has two distinctreal roots, then the discriminant  is  >  0

b^2  - 4ac  > 0

 

m^2  - 4(2)(8)  > 0

 

m^2 - 64  > 0

 

m^2  >  64

 

The possible values for m are

 

( - inf, -8)  U   (8, inf )
