The length of a rectangular room is 5 feet longer that twice the width. If the rooms perimeter is 160 feet, what is the length of the room?
L = 2W + 5
Perimeter = 2 (L + W)
So
160 = 2 [ 2W + 5 + W] divide both sides by 2 and simplify
80 = 3W + 5 subtract 5 from both sides
75 = 3W divide both sides by 3
25 = W
L = 2W + 5 = 2(25) + 5 = 55
