4(x + 5) + 4  =  4x + 8            To find  x , first distribute  4  to the terms in parenthesees.

 

4x + 20 + 4  =  4x + 8            Subtract  4x  from both sides of the equation.

 

20 + 4  =  8

 

24  =  8          This is false! So we have  no solution  for  x .
