Charlie is watching hot air balloons. Balloon A has risen at a 50° angle. Balloon B has risen at a 78° angle. If the distance from balloon A to the ground is 1,000 feet, how far is balloon B from balloon A? Round your answer to the nearest whole number.

Note  that  the balloons are at the smae height

Using the  tan the distance  from Charlie to the point directly  below balloon A  is given by

1000  / tan (50°)

And similalrly.....the  distance from Charlie to the point directly under balloon B  is given by

1000 / tan (78°)

So....the distace between  the  balloons is just the  sum of these  =

1000  (1/tan 50°  + 1/tan 78° )  ≈  1051.7 ft
