Jacob, Thomas and Harry shared a box of marbles. The number of marbles Jacob took was 4 more than 1/3 of the marbles in the box. The number of marbles Thomas took was 12 more than 1/2 of the remaining marbles. Harry took the last 8 marbles that were left. How many marbles were there in the box?

J = 1/3 + 4

      2/3 - 4

T = 1/2 + 12

H = 1/2 - 12

H: 1/2x - 12 = 8

       1/2x = 20

            x = 40

2/3 of total - 4 = 40

2/3 of total = 44

          total = 66

J + T + H = x

J = x/3 + 4        T = x/3 - 2 + 12         H = 8

(x/3 + 4) + (x/3 - 2 + 12) + 8 = x

x = 66
