Angela, Caleb, Daniel and Eliza have $844 altogether. Caleb has $32 more than Angela and Daniel has 5/6 the amount Eliza has. After Angela gives $4 to Caleb, he will have 1 1/2 the amount of money Daniel has. How much money does Angela have at first?

Set up a system:

\(a + c + d + e = 844\)

\(c = 32 +a\)

\(d = {5 \over 6} e\)

\(a - 4 = {3 \over 2} d\)

Hint: write all the variables in terms of e...

x + x + 32 + y + 5/6y = $844

2x + 11/6y = $844 - $32

2x + 11/6y = 812

x + 36 = 1 1/2 (5/6y)

x + 36 = 3/2 * 5/6y => x + 36 = 5/4y

4/5 (x + 36) = y

2x + 11/6 (4/5 (x + 36)) = 812

2x + 22/15x + 52.8 = 812 => x = 219

$219 at first
