Let the price of a pizza  = P

And let the price of a soda   = S

We have the following equations

4P + 10S  =  63     multiply by 3   =   12P + 30S  =  189    (1)

3P +   8S   = 48     multiply by  -4  = -12P -  32S  = -192  (2)

Add (1)  and (2)   and we have

-2S  =  -3      divide both sides by  -2

S =  -3/-2   =   1.5    so......a can of soda  =   \$1.50

Sub  1.5  into  4P + 10S  = 63    for S to find P

4P  +  10(1.5)  = 63

4P +   15  =  63

4P  =  48     divide both sides by 4

P  = 12   so.......a pizza costs  \$12

So...1 soda and 1 pizza  =   1.5 +  12   =  \$13.50
