First, you divide the numerator of 7/8 by the denominator. Now with the terminating decimal, you can multiply as usual by 3.

Think of multiplying fractions by whole numbers such as this one as simply multplying fractions by fractions.

 

Since 3 is a whole number, we can call it 3/1.

 

When we multiply (7/8) by (3/1) we only multiply the numerators (3 and 7) by each other and the denominators (8 and 1) by each other.

 

Here's a visual of what your work should look like:

 

(7) * (3) = 21

(8) * (1) =  8
