  A  =  length x width     

  24  =  L x (2L – 8)     

 

  2L² – 8L  =  24     

  2L² – 8L  – 24  =  0     

  (2L + 4)(L – 6)  =  0     

  L  = –2  disregard neg     

  L  =  6     

 

  W  = (2 • 6) – 8     

  W  =  4
