A kite is flying 77ft off the ground, and its string is pulled taut. The angle of elevation of the kite is 40°. Find the length of the string. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. please help

We will have a right triangle   with the string length the hypotenuse  

And we know the side opposite the angle of elevation

 

The sine relates the opposite side and the hypotenuse

 

We have

 

sin (40°)  =  opp  / hyp

 

sin (40°)  =  77/ hyp       rearrange as

 

 

hyp  =   77 / sin (40°)  =   119.79 ft   =   119.8 ft  =the string length
