The sum of the perimeters of two equilateral triangles is 45 inches, and the area of the larger one is 16 times the area of the smaller one. What is the area, in square inches, of the larger triangle?
Since the larger triangle is 16 times that of the smaler, its side is = √16 = 4 times as much
So.....let the side of the smaller = x
And the side of the larger is 4x
And we have
3x + 3(4x) = 45
15x = 45
x = 3
So the sidee of the larger is 4(3) = 12
And its area = (1/2)(12^2) (√3 / 2) = 144√3 / 4 = 36√3 in^2
