There are only six red, four blue and eight brown buttons in a jar. A button is randomly selected from the jar. What is the probability that the button selected is not blue?

There are 6+4+8 buttons = 18, 4 are blue, thus the probability of getting a blue is 4/18  = 2/9. If we don't want a blue, 1 - 2/9 = 7/9 which is our probability.

If you don't understand anything feel free to ask.

14 out of 18 are   not blue       14/18 = 7/9
