For f(x) = log (x), between which two integers does f(40) lie?  Explain

f(40)  =  log2 (40)

 

A log just represents an  exponent

 

What we are really asking is,  "What power do we put on 2 to give us 40 ?"

 

Note

 

2^5  =  32

And

2^6  = 64

 

So..... f(40)  lies between   5  and 6
