Point A: (-1, -2)

Point B: (k, k + 1)

Slope = 1/3

Slope = yA - yB

              over

              xA - xB

Put it into the formula

-2 - (k + 1)                 1

_________         =    __

-1 - (k)                        3

-2 - (-4 + 1) = 1

-1 -(-4) = 3

Therefore, k = -4
