Tony and Diego are playing COD. Diego got five kills in a round. If you doubled the amount of kills that Tony had and added to Diego's total, they would have a total of 13 kills. How many kills did Tony have?

Let Tony's total kills be \(t\).

Then we have

\(2t+5=13\)

If you solve this equation, you get

D = 5

T = T

2 * T   + D =13

2T  + 5  = 13           Solve for T

Thank you Impasta and Guest.

I will start from the place where Impasta and the Guest left out.

\(2t+5=13\)

\(2t=13-5\)

\(2t=8\)

\(t=4\)

The answer is: Tony has 4 kills.

Well, the question is trivially easy, so I was hoping the Guest would work it out by theirself.

Ditto.   I try NOT to give answers...I do not think it helps anyone.....I try to give methods and directions, so the poster of the Q has to do the work (and possibly) learn something along the way.....  indecision

I *agree*, but I like to answer directly because there is always a possibility that the person doesn't know how to solve it.

As you said, this question is easy and the guest doesn't know how to do it, so that means the guest might not know how to solve the equation as well.

99.99999% of the time the answer will just be copied and the question asker will not understand the solution if they didn't do anything to get their answer.

In my opinion the an answer should give a hint or leave an equation to solve. That will make the question asker at least understand the solution somewhat and learn.

IF they do not know how to solve it, they are able to ask for further help or clarification.....
