Vlad (the vampire) wanted to line the inside of his cof􏰀in bed with purple cloth. He measured the inside height, length and width to be twenty-three inches, eighty-four inches and twenty- eight inches. He also noted that it was a rectangular prism. The purple cloth is sold by the foot in sixty inch wide pieces. How many feet of cloth does he need to buy?

Calculate the surface area of the rectangular coffin bed.
Surface area = 2(LW + WH + HL)

Surface area = 2(84 * 28 + 28 * 23 + 23 * 84)

Surface area = 9856 in2

Let x inch be the length of cloth required. So, the surface area of the cloth is given by,

Surface area of cloth = (Length)(Width)

Surface area of cloth = (x)(60)

Surface area of cloth = 60x in2

Now,

Surface area of Cloth = Surface area of Coffin

60x = 9856

x = 9856/60 in

x = 164.2667

x = 164.2667 in * (1 foot/12 in)

x = 13.69 ft

Thus, 13.69 feet of cloth is required to cover the coffin bed from inside.

Given

      h = 23 inch             cloth = 12 inch * 60 inch

       l = 84 inch

     w = 28 inch

Solh

      Since coffin is Rectangular Prism, So inside total

Surface is given by

            S = 2(lw + lh + wh)

               = 2(28 *  84 + 84 * 23 + 28 + 23)

               = 9856 in2

Total Area covered by 1 Piece Cloth = 12 * 60 = 720 inch2

Total number of pieces required = 9856/720 = 13.68 ≈ 14

Since length of each cloth is 1 feet so 14 Cloth length 14 feet

Total cloth required is 14 feet
