Rectangle ABCD (above) is made out of 5 rectangles of equal length and breadth. If the perimeter of ABCD is 44, what is the perimeter of one of these smaller rectangles?

 

Let the little rectangles by x by y units.  put that on your pic.

 

The perimeter of the whole thing is  44 units  so the sum of any 2 adjacent sides is 22 units.

 

Now you should be able to work it out be yourself.
