Points P and R are located at (2, 1) and (12, 15) respectively. Point M is the midpoint of segment PR. Segment PR is reflected over the x-axis. What is the sum of the coordinates of the image of point M (the midpoint of the reflected segment)?

Well, the y-axis is easy. Since you flipped it 180,on the x-axis, that makes the y average out to 0. I know. Math is weird like that. cheeky

Anyways, the x-axis would just be an average between the two old ones. 2+12=14/2=7

So, your final answer is simply (7, 0). Hope this helped!

When P is reflected across x, P'  =  (2, - 1)

When R is reflected across x, R' = (12, -15)

So M' =  [ (2 + 12) / 2, (-1 - 15)/2 ]   =  [14/2, -16/2 ] = (7, -8)

So...the sum of the coordinates of M'  =   7 + - 8    = -1
