a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5 : 3. if 4 liters of this mixture is replaced ( from 20 liter) by 4 liters of milk then the ratio of milk to water in new mixture will be:
5 out of (5+3) = 5/8 is milk
5 /8 x 20 = 12.5 is milk
remove 4 liters of mix remove 5/8 x 4 = 2.5 liters milk
now there is 10 liters of milk..... now add 4 liters milk then there is 14 liters of milk
and 6 liters of water
14:6 = 7:3
Currently, the ratio of milk to water is 5:3. This means that 5/8ths of the mixture is milk.
If you pour out 4 liters from 20 liters, you now have 16 liters.
If 5/8ths of this mixture is milk, (5/8) x 16 liters is 10 liters of milk.
To these 10 liters of milk and 6 liters of water, you add 4 liters of milk.
You now have a mixture of 14 liters of milk and 6 liters of water.
This gives a ratio of 14:6 or 7:3 of milk to water.
