Suppose you have one quart of water/juice mix that is 50% juice, and you add 2 quarts of juice and 1 quart of water. What percent of the final mix is juice

 

One quart =50% juice + 50% water. Or a ratio of 1:1

 

You add 2 quarts of juice, or 2 x 2 =4, and :

You add 1 quart of water, or 1 x 2  = 2. 

 

So, you will have: 1 + 4 = 5 parts juice, and  1 + 2 = 3 parts water, or a ratio of : 5:3
