I have 6 pieces of candy that I want to distribute to 5 children. If all the candy is identical, and two of the children are twins who insist on receiving an equal amount of candy, then how many ways can I distribute the candy?

The twins must get only one piece each  else there will not be enough for every child

that leaves 4 pieces for 3 children

one child will receive 2 pieces .....there are 3 ways to do this and the others will receive 1 piece

Three ways.

How do you know that guest?

The question does not specify either way.

Then again maybe the candies are cut into bits and shared. The question does not specify that condition either.
